What is Pre-wedding Photography?
Weddings are one of the most common place events happening all around the globe. It also is the most exciting event of the lifetime for the couples getting married. Wedding brings joy, elation and many similar feelings to most of us. Capturing the photographs of such an event and bring out all such emotions in the photos is extremely challenging and sometimes even daunting. That’s why ‘Wedding Photography’ is one of the most popular genres of professional photography.
A lot has been done and written about wedding photography. But pre-wedding photography remains neglected most of the times. It is one of the fastest picking trends and requires much more attention and effort than some people may think it deserves. The idea behind pre-wedding photography is about savoring the great moments of love, joy, compassion, nervousness and expectations going through the minds of the bride and the groom during the days before the wedding. Pre-wedding photographs can be casual, fun and romantic. They display the chemistry between couples through the camera lens and become memorable moments.
How it is different from wedding photography?
Pre-wedding photography is very different from wedding photography. Think of wedding photography as extempore whereas pre-wedding photography can be compared to a well rehearsed debate. Wedding photography can be severe about mistakes whereas in pre-wedding photography, you get chances to correct your mistakes. Quick decisions and instant actions are the motto while shooting for wedding whereas taking your time and creating your own shots is what pre-wedding photography needs. In wedding photography, the limited time frame demands a lot of pictures covering all the highlights of the event. The pre-wedding shoots can be a collection of limited number of images which display the bond between the couples.
Another difference between pre-wedding and wedding photography is that in former, most of the control remains with the photographer as he can select the locations, props and poses whereas in the later the subjects are shot at pre-defined places and in the candid poses. In simple words think event v/s fashion!
“It sounds so easy. As a photographer I can shoot whatever I think is the best and can experiment as much as I want. I also have the luxury of retakes.”
True, but is that really so easy? The pre-wedding photography gives more control to the photographers but believe it, it is a lot more challenging than it looks. Unlike wedding photography nothing is given to you in pre-wedding photo shoot. No stage set up, couples are not in the most expensive dresses around etc. It’s all up to the photographer to make the shoot lively and interesting with creativity and conceptualization. Also like fashion shoot the compromise with quality is not possible at all. The pre-wedding photographs should be captured beautifully so that bride and groom can cherish these moments years later as well.
Another important challenge in pre-wedding shoot is to make the couples comfortable with the photographer. More confidence couples put into their photographer, better is the result of the shoot. Also the more the photographer knows about couples, more he exploits it for superior quality and more fitting images which show the chemistry between couples very evidently without making the photos look cheesy.
